In our step by step guide, we show that good preparation is key to the success of painting chalky or weathered exterior walls.
Steps
Make sure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from anything that may interfere with the adhesion of the materials being applied. Remove any loose material by brushing or scraping away with a stiff brush. Make sure the moisture content does not exceed 12% prior to painting.
Treat the area with Zinsser Mould Killer & Remover in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, to remove all signs of organic growth. Allow this to dry. Use a suitable filler to fill any cracks or small surface defects and allow to dry. Using a fine grade abrasive paper, rub down the surface and remove all dust.
Using Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer Sealer Stain Killer, prime all areas to be decorated with one full coat in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Allow 1 hour minimum drying time in normal drying conditions. Bring forward patch primed areas with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer Sealer Stain Killer and allow to dry.
Again using Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer Sealer Stain Killer prime all areas to be decorated with one full coat, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Allow 1 hour minimum drying time in normal drying conditions.
Finally decorate with 2 full coats Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Gloss or Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Satin in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Allow 1 hour minimum drying time between coats in normal drying conditions.
